The Recovering HumanSocial Impact Advisory & Leadership coaching
hi, I’m Rebecca Grey.
I’m an advisor and coach based in Salt Lake City, and the founder of The Recovering Human.
I spent two decades inside Fortune 500 and 1000 companies, including as an executive leading social impact and culture. I spent years building first-of-their-kind programs for organizations with up to 140K employees and presenting them to C-suites and boards.
Why I built Downstream
I believe AI is the biggest social impact opportunity of our time. The choices companies make about it now will shape not only work but our social, political, and economic systems for decades. Getting those choices right isn’t a cost to the business. It’s how you get AI people trust, use, and stick with. That’s why I built Downstream.
Why I coach
I know how to lead and do the work of business, but I also know what broken systems can cost: people come second to profit and are treated like nothing more than resources and consumers. It disconnects you from yourself and others. That’s why I built a safe space to work 1:1 with leaders on recovering our humanity. I work with purpose-driven, human-centered leaders on burnout, people leadership, systems change, career decisions, and inclusive leadership.
WHAT I stand for
People over profit
I love business. I hate shareholder primacy. People are more than resources to use and consumers to sell to. Recovering our humanity means treating people as human beings first.
Feminist, anti-racist, class-conscious
White supremacy, patriarchy, and class inequality are built into our systems. Real change starts with naming them and working to address them, not working around them.
It's all connected
Our economic, social, and political systems are interconnected. Decisions at work reach far beyond the workplace, and what happens in society and politics shapes companies and the people inside them.
The individual and collective
Change starts with the individual and is completed by the collective. Neither works alone: personal growth without collective action stalls, and collective action without grounded people burns out.
